SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE - AUDITION NOTICE Playhouse on the Square will be holding in-person auditions to fill the roles of FRED, KEN, ADRIAN, and VICTOR in SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE. Members of this BIPOC male quartet need to be very strong part singers who move well (dance experience a plus). Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues. This production is directed and choreographed by Resident Company Member, Daniel Stuart Nelson. Rehearsals will begin March 15th, 2022 with performances running April 29th - May 29th, 2022. (LOCAL HIRES ONLY - OUT OF TOWN TALENT MUST BE WILLING TO WORK AS LOCAL) AUDITIONS: Saturday, February 12th (1PM - 4PM) CALLBACKS: Sunday, February 13th (6PM - 8PM) LOCATION: Playhouse on the Square, 66 S. Cooper St., Memphis, TN CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: FRED - Male, 20-45. BIPOC. Solid and implacable; a true Bass. Must have a solid low C, but also comfortable singing solo material; “You’re The Boss”, “Little Egypt”; must move well. KEN - Male, 20-40. BIPOC. A smooth crooner; baritone, deep vocal quality, down low, but also the ability to sing in the higher register; vocal range: A below middle C to high Ab; “Spanish Harlem”, “Poison Ivy”; must move well. ADRIAN - Male, 20-40. BIPOC. Energetic leader of the group; second tenor, must have comfortable Ab; “Stand By Me”, “Youngblood”, “Love Potion #9”; must move well. VICTOR - Male, 20-40. BIPOC. Comic bad boy; first tenor with powerful high falsetto to high C; “I (Who Have Nothing)”, “Searchin’”, “Treat Me Nice”; must move well. WHAT TO PREPARE: To audition, please bring a headshot/resume and prepare a 32 bar cut of a song in the style of the show OR feel free to sing a song directly from the show. Please bring sheet music, an accompanist will be present. Please Note: if you are requested at callbacks, sheet music will be provided to test part singing and quartet voice blending. Salary: $250/Rehearsals, $30/Performance
