Portland Center Stage Ordains A New Deal For Theater Audiences

We the people of Portland Center Stage, in order to form a more artistic union, establish theatre, insure domestic entertainment, provide for the common man, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of tickets to ourselves and our patrons, do ordain and establish this New Deal for the citizens of Portland Oregon: For one day only, all remaining seats in the 2008/2009 season will be on sale for $25. From midnight to midnight on April 15th, Portlanders can put their stimulus package tax refunds directly to work on three shovel ready productions that are guaranteed to provide additional, er, stimuli of their own: Frost/Nixon, Grey Gardens, and Storm Large's Crazy Enough.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at 503.445.3700 or online through www.pcs.org by using the special code "DEAL." The $25 price will be good for all performance days and times, and there is no limit on the number of tickets per patron that are available through this one time only offer. The DEAL is up at midnight.

Storm Large's autobiographical world premiere musical Crazy Enough is garnering rave reviews, including the Oregonian, who describes it as "part cabaret, part confessional and part comedy" with a "rich slate of deeply personal (and often surprisingly gentle songs) [that] reveal the hopes against odds of an unprepared girl and the fears of a woman using bravado to hide the human flailing inside." Peter Morgan's Frost/Nixon, the play that became the Oscar-nominated film, dissects the conversation between David Frost and Richard Nixon that irrevocably changed the media's relationship to the American presidency. And closing out the season will be an entirely different look at the uneasy ways sensationalist public life and personal tragedy can mingle with Grey Gardens, the musical based on the cult documentary about "Little Edie" Beale and her mother "Big Edie" Bouvier Beale, two shirttail relations of Jackie Onassis who went from the cream of New York society to exile as eccentric shut ins at their crumbling 28 room Hampton estate. Portland Center Stage inspires our community by bringing stories to life in unexpected ways. Established in 1988 as an off shoot of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, PCS became an independent theater in 1994 and has been under the leadership of Artistic Director Chris Coleman since May 2000.
