Miracle Theatre Group Presents AVENTURAS DE DON QUIXOTE, 8/1

AVENTURAS DE DON QUIXOTE ("Adventures of Don Quixote"), a bilingual presentation for ages 5-10 created by Teatro Milagro, will be directed by Dañel Malán and plays the Milagro Theatre August 1, 2012, at 10 a.m. Milagro is located at 525 SE Stark Street, Portland, OR.

The play is approximately 30 minutes long. Tickets are $4 and can be purchased from www.milagro.org, by calling 503-236-7253 or at the door.

Maria doesn't like to read, but her curiosity draws her into the literary world of Don Quixote, an overly imaginative gentleman whose good intentions -- and mountains of books! -- are driving his friend into a frenzy! In this charming new touring play from Teatro Milagro, children and adults alike will be pulled into a fun and exciting interactive drama inspired by the famous novel of Cervantes.

Dañel Malán (Director) co-founded the Miracle Theatre with her husband, José E. Gonzalez and in 1989 she created the bilingual-touring program, Teatro Milagro, which also includes the BEAT and Puentes arts-integrated training programs. Under her artistic direction, Dañel has created and produced over 20 original bilingual plays which have toured throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada. As a playwright her recent works include B'aktun 13 (2012) about the end of the Mayan calendar; Duende de Lorca (2011) about Federico García Lorca, and El Último (2009), a bilingual ecodrama. In addition to researching and writing several play, Dañel has also written and produced four books of bilingual curriculum for English-as-a-Second Language instructors.

Tricia Castañeda-Gonzales is from Portland, where she received a degree in Theatre Arts from Linfield College. While she has been engaged in theater since her early years, she also has a strong background in education and works as a pre-school teacher. In addition to acting with Miracle Theatre Group, Tricia has also worked in Portland with defunkt theater as a company member and when not teaching or acting, also occasionally engages in set-building. This is Tricia's second year as a company member of Teatro Milagro.

Ajai Terrazas-Tripathi is originally from Corvallis, Oregon, where he graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Theatre Arts. During his time at OSU he performed many memorable roles in such plays as Picasso at Lapin Agile, Much Ado about Nothing, Woyzek, The Silent Woman, and An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein. Ajai has also directed Bringing it all Back Home, No Exit and Doric Wilson's Street Theatre. He has also recently produced Stories of Discrimination: The Death Rattle, an original play based on real-life stories for the nonprofit Rainbow Health Resources based in Corvallis. In addition to beginning his second year of touring with Teatro Milagro, he also assists with grant writing and development of Milagro's community outreach efforts.

Daniel Moreno has performed in Miracles production's for several years, which include The ShrunKen Head of Pancho Villa and appearing in Miracle's Día de los muertos festivals: La Carpa Calavera, La Carpa del Ausente and La Carpa del Maestro. Teatro Milagro's touring productions include El Último, American Sueño and Duende de Lorca. His recent performances in Portland area theatres have included CRT's Fiddler on the Roof, PAC's showing of Big Love and Pelú Theatre's A Suicide Note from a Cockroach. Additionally he works in the Milagro office as a production assistant, house manager, volunteer coordinator and administrator for Milagro's participation in OYE, the Latino Sexual Health Coalition.

Sylvia Malán-González, a 10-year veteran of Milagro last seen in the production American Sueño, will be joining the team as a performer and arts instructor for the Aventuras program. Sylvia began performing at Miracle Theatre Group when she was just five years old in Miracle's dance company, the Milagro Bailadores, many of Miracles annual Día de los muertos festivals and several Teatro Milagro educational plays.

The Miracle Theatre Group has been dedicated to bringing the vibrancy of Latino theatre to the Northwest community and beyond for more than 28 years. In addition to its national tours, Miracle provides a home for Spanish and Latin American arts and culture at El Centro Milagro, where it enriches the local community with a variety of community outreach projects and educational programs designed to share the diversity of Latino culture.
